The natural rubber used to make bands is only grown within 10 degrees of the Equator; therefore all rubber used in Rubber Bands must be imported via cargo vessels into the USA.
Due to weather related issues a shortage of rubber occurred in late 2020 and price of raw rubber remain 50% above its level a year ago. Delays in shipping and shortage of cargo container space have increased freight rates 400% over normal levels. In addition, in January a massive cargo ship lost 1,821 containers in a Typhoon which included a major shipment of Rubber Bands to the USA, creating shortages in many sizes.
The combination of these factors has increased our cost of bands significantly with this impact expected to continue for the foreseeable future. To address this we are adding a temporary 50₵/lb surcharge to rubber bands purchases. Additional charges will also be added to Mover/Pallet Bands.
The shipping backlog may make certain sizes either temporarily out of stock or of limited availability. We therefore reserve the right to limit order size or may contact you regarding the option of refunding your purchase or placing your items on back-order.
Thank you for your understanding of this these unusual and unprecedented circumstances. For questions or to check on availability of stock we recommend you call us in advance of your order at 855-542-2637.
